JUNG VON MATT ACADEMY
It‘s difficult to estimate the amount of time that went into designing the JvM Academy. Cord and I worked about 700 hours on the project. About 7000 meters of tape were used in the installation.
This project demanded everything from me in every respect. We worked through several nights. Special material that we imported from Japan. New techniques and materials that I learned to use and love. All these factors make the Academy a unique work of art to me. A work of art that not only features bright colors, but is also meant to be lived with and get used.
EDGE
The installation "Edge" is the further development of a work I realized in Tokyo in 2020. I find borders and crossing them very exciting. In the realization of my work, I often exceed my own limits to implement my visions.
PORTAL
The portal swallows you, twists your head and spits you out into the Academy space.
Cord and I created this room almost at the end of our nine week tape marathon.
All styles that we developed during the process are merging together in this room.
YTF?!
The academy is a space in which you immerse yourself. A place that makes a difference and stands out from the rest of the Agency. Here anyone drops their pants.
Everybody knows something and nobody knows nothing. It's a space that allows you to learn and get involved. There is a vibe of creating & making, a breath of never-finishing. It's a place that changes and longs to change others.
SYMBIOSIS
It´s not difficult to find the Y in this room.
But the real challenge was to create an installation that meets the daily requirements of a creative classroom.
Here the students come together to learn, fail, party and try out new things.
The Tape art work and the light installation
by Lineareal have formed a symbiotic relationship.
ELEMENTS
In this room you can find all the colors, materials and techniques that were used to create the JvM Academy tape style. This space was specifically created to generate creative stimulation among the students.
By breaking down the art installation into its essential components; colors, shapes and materials, we created a construction kit from which new styles and ideas should emerge. The students are encouraged to continuously modify and develop their Academy.
SYNTHE
SIZER
One of the central questions we asked ourselves when designing the academy was: How do we create a space that can change dynamically? We created hidden optical illusions and a multitude of details that can be perceived differently depending on the position of the viewer.
Y?!
One of the main questions that the students of the JvM Academy should deal with is the question of why? Together with Robert Andersen we have developed a concept where a "Y" can be found in every room of the Academy. This message is transmitted into the world via the terrace out for everyone to see.
